I am looking for a good nerologist in southern california, anyone know of one?

Helmet at school

I had worked out a new IEP with my son's school so that he would no longer have to wear his helmet.  His seizures are to the point that I don't feel he needs it any longer.  That was on Tuesday of last week.  I came in today for the final signing and they presented a brand new IEP to me mandating that he wear his helmet at all times.  The nurse had sent a form to his neurologist for her to sign which she did stating "Logan will wear a helmet at school".  Then the nurse told me that his gait, motor, and social skills were all worse then they were last year.

How to "Block" Seizures?

Since my son has autism, his seizures look very much so like "autistic stims." Does anyone have any experience with teachers or shadows trying to block this type of behavior? If so, is it effective?

How to Get School to Enforce Your Child's Diet?

Hi. I have found it very difficult in the past to get the personnel at my son's school to comply with the dietary restrictions that I have set in place for him. He has autism and has a tendency to have impulse control problems, like bolting.

OT and PT at Home

Long story short: both my boys need more OT and PT, in addition to what they recieve from their school (my 14 year old gets no therapy however).  I've been doing the exhaustive search online for activities I can do at home, during the winter, to further work on OT and PT related skills.

Does anyone here have therapists that come into their home?  If so, do they drag a bunch of tubes and balls in and out each session?  If not, do you have any ideas for home that you've seen therapists use?

Is Private School an Option for Children with Epilepsy?

Alex is much too young for school still, but I've been reading through some of the posts about the laws pertaining to special education. Thank you very much to the moms who posted the great links.

Great website on special ed

On another thread, a mom suggested that I might be able to find an advocate to go with me to my daughter's school when we talk about her IEP. I haven't been able to find any information about that online yet, but I did find a site that I think might be really helpful to parents, like me, who are just starting to deal with the school system.

Regular Ed vs Special Ed

I have been thinking about Andy's placement alot over the summer.  Especially since he has seemed to regress some due to his med's and having multiple seizures per day. Prior to Kindergarten we decided to have Andy placed in a regular ed k class with an assistant.

Andy is very bright but also has ASD and epilepsy.  He definately has social deficits and interaction issues. He seemed to do well in this class with the help of his assistant.
