Has annyone tried the modified adkins diet. I just downloaded the ebook. Did anyone experience,the nausea,or lethargy in the beginning?

Hello, everyone! My name is Betty,and my sons name is John. He is 17 years old. I was wondering if any of the Mom's have tried the modified adkins diet for seizures? I have read about the great results people are getting with the diet. I am going to try it. I want to buy the book,but none of the stores I've called have it. Does anyone have it? Michael and Tammy Koski thought they’d never find a solution for their daughter’s seizures.  She was suffering from up to 100 absence seizures per day and after four years of anti-seizure drugs, nothing was working.  However, they were lucky enough to meet Dr. Eric Kossoff at the John Hopkins Center in Baltimore, where their little girl was put on the modified Atkins Diet.  After just a few months, her seizures reduced dramatically and she is now medication free and having just 5 to 10 seizures per day. 

Nathan was born full term and healthy weighing in at 9lbs 5oz.  When he was two weeks old I noticed what I thought may have been a seizure.  While I was feeding him he would get very still, his eyes would look off to the right and his left arm would shake slightly.  It was so slight that I thought maybe I was just being paranoid.

We have tried every medication out their with no luck. His eegs remain the same. He has abnormal activity every 7 seconds and has 30 grand mals a day and 40 myclonical a day according to his eeg. We see 25 to 30 seizures a day.

It seems there is hope for people with epilepsy that their seizures can be controlled by diet alone. Low carbohydrate diets like the Atkins diet and modified Atkins diet have been proven to reduce seizures.

The way the diet works is by switching what the body uses as a source of energy. Instead of carbohydrates getting converted into glucose for energy,  fat is converted into fatty acids, which puts your body in a state of ketosis. The ketogenic diet is diet that does this and has been used successfully on people with epilepsy, and for some the modified Atkins diet works in a similar way to the ketogenic diet.

Has anyone noticed that after your child has been on a diet for a while, a huge increase in ease of speaking or a language "explosion," where your child rapidly increased his/her language skills?

The first six months my son was on the diet I noticed a slight increase in language skills, however, not enough to be too excited about. He is also 6 years old.

Our 11 year old son Jacob has been diagnosed with medically intractable epilepsy. (Complex Partials) He has been having seizures for about three years and is now 11 years old. We have been on three different medications starting with Lamical, Trileptal and now a Keppra /Dilantin combo without sucess.

my name is Natalie, and my son Stephen has epilepsy. He has been on Epilim, Rivotril and Lamictin. He is currently on Topamax, which we are weaning because he is also on MAD (Modified Atkins Diet).

Stephen is nearly 9 yrs old, and has a brain injury, which I believe was caused by his pertussis vaccine at 6 weeks. He has global developmental delays, and is non-verbal. He has tonic-clonic seizures after he goes to sleep at night.
