John Hopkins Officially Accepted Kayla for Keto Diet

John Hopkins called yesterday after looking over Kayla's records and said she can try the diet. The doc did say with her seizures (absence) that it probably won't be a cure but can significantly help her seizures. We were a little disappointed however who knows and we are okay with significantly reducing the seizures.

Now we just have to tell my daughter that in 2 weeks we will be starting this diet. I dread this moment however my husband and I will be positive as can be. If she knows mom is okay with this then she will be okay with this. I hope it works however if not we can say we gave it a shot.

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we wait over the next 2 weeks and as we go through this process. Thanks to everyone who has given advice, tips, encouraging words, etc. This has been so helpful in making this decision and becoming more educated about the diet.

Big Thanks to Arlene for having this wonderful website because without it I don't know that I would have given the diet a try at all. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are so welcome!

I know this will be a LONG 2 weeks while you wait but now is the time to get your kitchen prepared, and yourself. I think it is an exciting time - a time for hope.

It is not difficult - it is an adjustment. Time to put away the cookies and treats where she cannot see them. Time to regroup as a family to make it the easiest experience possible for Kayla. I would not let my other kids flaunt food in front of Adam. I would take him for a walk and let my husband give the other kids a treat.  It did get easier though as he accepted the diet himself.

I send big HUGS your way. Keep it simple to start. Do not worry of there are adjustments to be made.  Try and incorporate more butter than oil to make the food as pleasant as possible.

I had another mom comment on using ketocal for the first time - she loved it. Here is her post: Scroll down to read the "UPDATE on Nevin".

I cannot wait to hear your update!

Warmly,

Arlene Martell (Mom of Adam above)
